my story: 1)everything was working fine on Feisty 2)upgraded to Gutsy (had to finish it from the shell). System Settings and everything was working alright. 3)upgraded KDE from 3.5.8 to 3.5.9 then everything requiring administrator mode stopped working. I wasnt even getting the prompt for my password. Sudo kcontrol was functional though. 4)after reading this threat checked out my /etc/hosts file and the local hostname address was set to 127.0.1.0, which is a wrong loopback address. I edited it to 127.0.0.1 and everything went back to normal.
