Hi, Found this tread in the forums, after searching thru lots of them. Look in the bottom section and you find a solution with sudo modprobe i8k force=1 http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-472567.html
That one did work on the Dell XPSM1710. Not sure why i8k did not load without the force thought... Finally some cooling!
