I recently used my laptop in a place (in Waterloo, incidentally) where they didn't use print servers for their network printers. I'd read Kurt Pfeifle's blog and remembered that I could try turning on the SNMP backend, and with that change cups nicely discovered the printers. Most users have no idea what SNMP is and would be stuck at this point, only noticing that Ubuntu doesn't find the network printers like other OS's do.
Please turn on the SNMP backend. -- the snmp backend should be installed in /usr/lib/cups/backend https://launchpad.net/bugs/54259 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
