It seems a similar bug appears in hardy with kernels 2.6.24-17-generic/rt. As a sideeffect gnome-key-ring segfaults. The temporary solution is to move S13gdm to S30gdm thus behind S24hal and the problem is gone. It seems hal is initialized to late. As hardy is a LTS version I think the bug should be handled.
