KDE 4.0.4 did not ifx the issue for me. The device still failed to settle. I too need sane etc. as my scanner requires it, so removing that stuff is also not an option for me. One of these days, when I get time (almost impossible with two infants) I will try debugging the gphoto2 stuff to see what is happening.
