Ok running it with sudo fixed it. There was a panel came up regarding grub having been locally modified. So I chose the package maintainers version.
This has now sorted out the problem. It was not writing the new grub. There must have been difference between /boot/grub/menu.lst and the one held in /var/run. This episode occurred only after I had to manually run the usplash command in terminal. SUM also now installs usplash. Thanks. -- Startupmanager fails to install new usplash theme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235615 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
