Ok, I now have a recipie that allows me to reproduce this reasonably
reliably.

I've have a HD video in AVI format (Elephant Dreams) and a low res video
(Johnny Cash - Hurt) in FLV format from youtube and I'm playing them
using vlc.

My machine is not quite powerful enough to play the HD video so I get
jumpy and mangle frames along with blue frames. If I then quit the HD
video and play the low res video, X gets this signal 11.

What I need now is info on how to get some good debugging info. Should I
run X under gdb? If so, how do I set this up the maximize the useful
information?
