I'm on Kubuntu Hardy fresh install and are experiences the same issue. I've found a thread that suggested to remove the "- i" parameter in halt -d -f -i $poweroff $hddown . Tried that without any luck. Issue remains at least for me on Kubunty Hardy (I didn't have this issue on Gutsy).
