@GFree: I see you use unpatched driver. Since you use not totem but video player that seems to keep the default values (I think at least VLC is doing like this) this should be fine. Actually the intel driver is mapping this to the neutral setting for contrast/brightness/saturation. (according to HW register specification)
If you have personally other preferences (the blacks are not back enough etc.), then please adjust the parameters to to your favourite setting, that's what they should be used for. However I would oppose changing the driver defaults to anything else than neutral.
