Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
Ubuntu 8.04 (fresh install with all updates up to the date of this bug report) hangs upon login (right after submitting the password). The desktop background can be seen as well as the top bar (empty) and the mouse can be moved, otherwise the system is unresponsive (Ctrl+Alt+Delete and Ctrl+Alt+Backspace don't work. Ctrl+Alt+SysRq+B does reboot the system though). This happens on a machine with a GeForce 8800 GTX GPU and restricted drivers enabled. When using the default drivers the problem does not appear. One workaround is restarting X while at the login screen (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace). This will temporary fix the problem for that session (you would need to repeat this step upon reboot) and will allow the desktop to load correctly. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- System hangs upon login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237131 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
