I used a standard 8.04 Ubuntu desktop CD, freshly downloaded and burned; Same for the Kubuntu try. I have not run the check from the boot menu, but did verify the burn. Also, the same problem occurred with both, ubuntu and kubuntu, thus a corrupted disk seems unlikely as a cause.
In the mean time, I have used the "alternate" text-based installer, and it worked. However, before and after the partition editor is shown, it shows a blank (blue) screen for a LONG time (several minutes). That fits with the experience from running gparted directly from a live CD session: it works, but takes long to show partitions. To get you full copies of /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman, I'd have to rerun the installer - aborting it just in time not to kill my shiny new installation. I'll see if I can muster the motivation to do this :) If I do, I'll also "Check CD for defects" first. -- installer hangs on starting partition editor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237051 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
