Ok, here the latest analysis. The terminal works perfectly except for the tiny problem that the window is not drawn at all. So I can click in it, I can even run a command in it!! And yes, it must have been floating, as I could drag that undefinable piece of my screen (that was everything but black) around and could dock it. Still it doesn't redraw so there is only crap on it but at least I know where it is now :-/
