I apologize if I caused any confusion with my previous post (2008-06-07). My computer (Compal EL80) is a laptop.
The mouse that I am having problems with is a built-in touchpad but it shows up in /proc/bus/input/devices as "ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse". It has two buttons with a biometric fingerprint scanner between them.
