I see a very similar effect in Writer. I had some text that mixed the symbol font with Arial in a single line. The text included German Umlauts รค, etc. These were corrupted (other characters were displayed) when also the symbol font was used in the same line.
I am running Hardy 8.0.4 with the latest updates (not proposed).
