It hung again this morning on an update. Interestingly, it also hung when I viewing the details of the packages to be updated. On both occasions the results of "sudo id" was
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root),126(vboxusers),1001(usbusers) I ran pstree -A after it hung when I was viewing the updates and when it was installing them.
