I have the same problem, however I'm trying to install Kubuntu 8.04 from CD image. The error message (also at 94%) I get is: Executing 'grub- install (hd0)' failed. My laptop has one 200GB harddrive, 3 partitions. Windows XP is on the first partition. The other 2 partitions are ext3 (meant for Kubuntu) and a swap partition. After searching the web I tried several things.
sudo grub find /boot/grub/stage1 results in a "not found" type of message sudo fdisk -l returns a list of partitions but there are 2 incorrect entries mentioning a w95 partition where the ext3 partition is. On the web I found other people mentioning this as well but I haven't found any real answers other than suggestions about Bios incompatibilities or something. The Bios in my laptop is Phoenix TrustedCore (1.00.07). There's a setting "fixed disk bootsector" set to "normal", the other option is "write-protect". For the record I am a Linux newbie checking the state of linux every 18 months or so. I wish to familiarize myself with Linux because Vista is simply not an option. -- GRUB fails to install in Ubuntu 8.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224134 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
