Same bug for me. If I boot with the last 2.6.24-19, the nvidia driver (nvidia-glx-new from ubuntu repositories) is not used, and not listed in System -> Administration -> Restricted drivers.
My keyboard layout change too, it switchs to USA (I use french keyboard). No problems if I boot with the 2.6.24-18.32 kernel. I attach my xorg.conf and my Xorg.0.log (after a fresh restart with the 2.6.24-19 kernel) in the next comments. I join too my last updates, as I don't know wich packages cause the bug. Note that there are 2 updates listed, in 2 different days. In fact I haven't try to boot with the 2.6.19 kernel after the first update, so perhaps it's a package from this list.
