While this issue is sorted out, what you probably want to do to figure
out a suitable channel for your wifi is something like this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/bin$ sudo iwlist eth1 scan | grep Channel
[sudo] password for jlind: 
                    Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1)
                    Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1)
                    Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1)

                    Frequency:2.437 GHz (Channel 6)
                    Frequency:2.462 GHz (Channel 11)
                    Frequency:2.422 GHz (Channel 3)
                    Frequency:2.437 GHz (Channel 6)
                    Frequency:2.437 GHz (Channel 6)
