Pretty much same thing happened to me. I dragged a separator on the panel and everything disappeared. I restarted my computer with no luck, and now only have programs, I can't see any of my files. I've run a few commands:
rm -f ~/.config/menus/applications.menu and more of the same, but I get told its an invalid command or no such file exists. My ubuntu know-how is quite limited, but any help would be appreciated all the same.
