It looks like your xorg.conf has been generated using the Screens and Graphics tool. Could you try running with a bare xorg.conf please? You can create one by doing:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg You will still need to add 'Driver "nvidia"' to the 'Device' section of the new file, but don't add any modelines or change any other options in it.
