Public bug reported: i dont know why this has happened (wasnt a problem a month ago) basically i have 4 pc's on our home network, 2 run xp, and 2 run ubuntu (hardy) one of the ubuntu boxes is basically a file server (or network storage device, if you prefer) i have set up networking (using samba, since switching to linux ive used samba, with little or no trouble) but i have no write access to the shared folders on the xp systems.
i have changed all the permissions on the xp system, but it still wont allow access, i have tried many methods to no avail, so i thought id report it as a bug (although im not sure its a ubuntu bug) i have no idea as to why networking between os's should be so difficult all of a sudden, especially when all ive had to do in the past is basically select (or create) a folder for sharing, i would then be prompted to install some things (required for networking) after that i would just run the network set up wizard on the xp systems (with no changing of permissions or anything else) then i would run these 2 commands in a terminal - sudo smbpasswd -a user name and then follow the prompts (just selecting pass words and such) then i would run sudo smbpasswd -e username and that would be it. but now people have been saying that the smb.config files neede adjusting and loads of other stuff (all of which i have tried and had no luck) im running ubuntu (hardy heron) there are 2 xp based systems (both pretty much the same configuration, and all up to date) the other ubuntu box is also running hardy, all the systems are connected to a 4 port router (we use this to share the internet connection, and for networking) as ive mentioned networking was very easy until now. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- no write access to shared folder when networking between linux and xp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245441 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
