Michael, I've reverted to KDE 3.X. I think I'll wait until 4.X non-beta becomes more usable for me.

I do have the option on the logout screen (depress "Turn off computer" and you have two more options there: suspend to disk and suspend to ram). Fully updated KDE4 from launchpad repositories.
