** Description changed: + ************************************* + NEW INFORMATION: + After a restart, it worked for me, but I now use the old packages 2.6.24.13-19.44 and compiled the ath_pci driver from the madwifi svn. Still I imagine that the problem will occur again, if I chose to install the 13-19.45 version (which I will not try). Since I recompiled the madwifi after downgrading, it is impossible to tell whether 13-19.45 + recompile would have solved the problem. (But anyhow 'recompiling drivers' isn't the goal of a friendly, low knowledge-needed Ubuntu ) + ************************************* + This morning I updated from linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-19-generic (2.6.24.13-19.44) to 2.6.24.13-19.45 linux-restricted-modules-common (2.6.24.13-19.44) to 2.6.24.13-19.45 After this (and a restart) my driver for my wireless card didn't work any more. I took the following steps: I downgraded the 2 packages to 2.6.24.13-19.44 this failed, then I: I recompiled the madwifi driver from the madwifi svn and installed it I attached the modprobe and dmesg at the beginning and after the above mentioned steps. I have only basic knowledge of linux, but I'm somehow touching the limit here, that is why I filed this bug report. I don't know exactly, if these two package are resposible for the bug, but probality is high. Other packages I updated that day: Commit Log for Fri Jul 11 08:12:03 2008 Upgraded the following packages: fglrx-control (1:8-3+2.6.24.13-19.44) to 1:8-3+2.6.24.13-19.45 gtk2-engines-murrine (0.53.1-1ubuntu1) to 0.53.1-1ubuntu2 gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks (0.9.12-11) to 0.9.12-12 libapache2-mod-php5 (5.2.4-2ubuntu5.1) to 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.2 libpoppler-glib2 (0.6.4-1ubuntu2) to 0.6.4-1ubuntu3 libpoppler2 (0.6.4-1ubuntu2) to 0.6.4-1ubuntu3 linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-19-generic (2.6.24.13-19.44) to 2.6.24.13-19.45 linux-restricted-modules-common (2.6.24.13-19.44) to 2.6.24.13-19.45 php5 (5.2.4-2ubuntu5.1) to 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.2 php5-common (5.2.4-2ubuntu5.1) to 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.2 php5-mysql (5.2.4-2ubuntu5.1) to 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.2 poppler-utils (0.6.4-1ubuntu2) to 0.6.4-1ubuntu3 xorg-driver-fglrx (1:7.1.0-8-3+2.6.24.13-19.44) to 1:7.1.0-8-3+2.6.24.13-19.45 other info: Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release: 8.04
