I have a similar problem. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 on a Dell D610. I get the message

In the past couple of days, both Firefox and Thunderbird hang...Skype and Pidgin seem to continue OK as I can send messages..but I cannot update pages in FF nor my inbox in Thunderbird.
