I was able to resolve the issue: YOu need to actually blacklist uvcvideo (since the onboard video doesn't work anyway, no loss of functionality), and install linux-backports- hardy, to get an updated iwl4963 (if successful, your WLAN light should work). You may need to add iwl4963 to the MODULES list in /etc/default/acpi, but it works.
