This bug does appear to be specific to 8.04. I have now used 8.10 alpha for a couple of weeks. I tested this over and over. I've been unable to duplicate the problem. I never had this problem with 7.10 and before. I do not have the time to pursue this bug further so I am going to leave all systems I support at 7.10 and earlier versions while leaving this system on 8.10.
