Public bug reported:

Using Edgy Server RC, I am unable to download any file larger than a
certain size (I have not worked it down to a specific yet) using an
RTL8169 NIC. This problem first manifested itself by apt-get update
failing on all packages in the "edgy" groups with bzip2 crc errors.
After a while, I realized that it was all on packages lists which were
large, but it worked fine on the 14 byte dummy ones in edgy-updates/etc.

After some thinking, I decided to try downloading some random gzip and
bzipped files from the internet (specifically the gallery php
application). Any large file would fail with crc errors.
gzipped/tarred files (again, specifically the gallery app) would extract
the first few files then fail.

Notes:
-Not reproducable with 6.06LTS
-Not reproducable with current Knopmyth livecd
-Not reproducable using the same system with 6.10 server but using a different
chipset 100mbit NIC
-No change in symptoms using a 100mbit hub vs 1000mbit hub (sync light shows
correct physical data rate in both cases)

machine details:
-dual p3 550
-intel BX based motherboard
