I should have known that as I am bugsquad. DOH! Sorry Chris! :D I am
using Ubuntu Hardy Hardy heron 8.04

the output of apt-cache policy wireshark is:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache policy wireshark
wireshark:
  Installed: 1.0.0-1
  Candidate: 1.0.0-1
  Version table:
 *** 1.0.0-1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

The output of ls -l /usr/share/applications/wireshark* is

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /usr/share/applications/wireshark*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3060 2008-04-03 08:10
/usr/share/applications/wireshark.desktop
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3108 2008-04-03 08:10
/usr/share/applications/wireshark-root.desktop
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

The wireshark menu item with the gksudo access wasnt available..so i had
to edit the original menu item to include it...ive run since displaying
ls -l if that makes sense for the output above. Thanks for any other
help :)
