When I launch xsane, the whole system freezes (keyboard, mouse are unusable). It also happens when I launch The Gimp : I get a freeze when it is launching the xsane plugin. This bug happens too when the scanner isn't plugged in. Scanner Canon 8400F. USB connection OK.
