Changing my account settings to "Show subscribed mails only", Then using "Folder | Subscriptions" to subscribe to my Inbox as suggested on the evolution FAQ solved the problem. apparently this bug is was solved in a later version so I suggest releasing the updated version in ubuntu as soon as possible.
