It does seem to be something in libapr0 that is causing the crash. I rolled back libapr0 (along with a bunch of other packages which also build from the apache2 source package, as dictated by dependencies) to 2.0.55-4ubuntu2.1 (i.e. dapper-security), and the bug went away.
