I just tried three times. The i386 desktop cd also hangs on the installer. At some point X just becomes utterly unrepsonsive. I can move the mouse around but nothing responds. Keyboard is dead too. Only option is a hard reboot. I also tried using the vesa driver (default is "ati"), but it eventually crashed anyway.
