Seems the same as my problem, except I have the Brother MFC-210C. I have reinstalled the printer drivers (both lp and cups). I should add that I noticed that the printer notification icon in the bottom panel appears for about 2 seconds after printing. I also can print with all other apps.
-- I am unable to print from open office, I tried reinstalling open office but it did not work. I use a brother mfc240c printer and I am running Hardy.
