UPDATE: The system beep starting acting up before the message: "Loading files necessary to boot" (or something like that) and after an error message about "VBE". I've tried to duplicate event again (the beeping, not the VBE message, I keep getting that, but that's not what this report is about so whatever), but have not had any success.
