here are the steps by which you can reproduce this bug. 1. in /home/username/subdir using nautilus invoked by gksudo nautilus open a tar.bz2 and extract it . 2. close the root nautilus, close the terminal from which it was invoked . 3. open a user nautilus . 4. watch while system fails . note ! see attached JPG taken of completely unresponsive desktop , I couldn't do a normal screenshot because at this point only a hard reset or sysreq rseiub is possible .
