The booting regression is solved for me, but 2.6.24-20.38 kernel gave another regression for some of us : the display falls back in low-resolution (graphics safe mode). Maybe it's https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24/+bug/254418 Looks like it's related to nvidia cards only.
