I can confirm the same or similar problem. When copying large files over the network (ethernet, cifs mounted share) after a few seconds to a few minutes the system hangs with kernel panic (blinking keyboard lights). This happens all the time and I never managed to copy more than a couple of GBs.
I did a copy from the console and managed to get a picture of the panic. Unfortunately shift-pgup was not working so it is not the whole dump. My system is: 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Fri Jul 11 23:41:49 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Hardware: M/B: ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe LAN: Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet controler WiFi: Belkin G Wireless PCI Adaptor While this happens only with ethernet traffic, the kernel panic seems to be related with the wireless: EIP: [<f8bd0c52>] ieee80211_tx_status_irqsafe+0x12/0x120 [mac80211] SS:ESP 0068:dd36ff14 ** Attachment added: "kernel_panic_resized.jpg" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16844945/kernel_panic_resized.jpg -- Heavy network activity (eg: torrent/nfs file transfers) causes Hard System Locks and/or Network Freezes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
