Regarding the Intel chip issue on Sony Vaio's, the xbacklight xrandr
workaround no longer works on Intrepid Ibex Alpha 3 (running livecd):

No outputs have backlight property
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# xbacklight -set 50
