Yes, indeed. The 255 was reintroduced by the patch in this bug report, in order to keep the exact same functionality as before in Ubuntu, when it was set by acpi-support (and not by laptop-mode-tools). But I guess it will make sense to move one step forward and set it to 254, as recommended upstream. The best would be to reopen bug #172282, which has pointers to the relevant discussion.
