Try to disable the system sounds mixing ( ESD ) System->Preferences->Sound
Tab : Sound Uncheck "Enable software sound mixing (ESD). I would like to have the logout sound enabled if somebody can investigate why disabling this causes the shutdown to work properly. Please try to fix this.
