My guess is that the program is not handling drives as large as we both have. I'm still waiting for any kind of response from the TrueCrypt team.

See also my problem in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=896412 -- Truecrypt hidden volume size incorrect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252939 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I am running Ubuntu 8.04 with all of the latest patches. The system is set up using the LVM and the drive the system is running off of is encrypted. I have an external 500 GB USB drive (465 GB of usable space). I have attempted to format it with the "Hidden Volume" option. The results I get are strange and probably a bug. Here are the results: First, I choose to "create a volume within a partition/device", then a "hidden truecrypt volume". I select the encryption algorithm (I have tried AES-Twofish-Serpent, Serpent-Twofish-AES, and just AES with the same results) and hash algorithm "Whirlpool". I let the program format the drive. 12 hours later, I am asked to copy some files to the outer volume. I copy one small 10 kilobyte file (because the program makes me copy something, personally I don't see why it is necessary as my intent is to divide the disk up into two relatively equal parts for the outer verses hidden volumes). Next, the program calculates the largest possible hidden volume size. Here is where things get strange. It always tells me the largest possible size for the hidden volume is about 47.5 GB. This is on a 465 GB disk with one small 10 k file copied to it. Since I am trying to make about a 200 GB hidden volume, I go ahead and say I want a 45 GB hidden partition. The program finishes its work and I then start copying lots of files to the outer volume. I can copy about 2 GB of files before the program disables copying to the outer volume in order to protect the hidden volume. In other words, when creating a hidden volume of size 45 GB on a 465 GB drive, I only get 47.5 GB of usable space for the whole drive, including both the hidden volume and the outer volume. I have not tried to copy files to the hidden volume to see how much it would actually let me copy. I suspect that the 45 GB that I am typing in as the size for my hidden volume is actually being set up as something much much larger. When I create just a standard truecrypt volume (no hidden volume), the drive is set up with the full 465 GB of space available. -- Truecrypt hidden volume size incorrect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
