Would you care to confirm this is still an issue with the latest Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 as it's likely a fix will need to go into the actively developed kernel first and then backported if necessary. You should be able to test via a LiveCD which can be found from http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your results. If the issue still exists, would you maybe be able to boot with the 'quiet' and 'splash' boot options removed? Do you see the error messages? Would you be able to take a digital photo of them and attach it to this bug report?
