As to SecondLife, the minimum system requirements for that game are a
*lot* higher than what the Intel 965 does, so don't be surprised and
don't consider it a bug that it runs terribly.  That game says it
requires a good Nvidia or ATI card.  Integrated graphics with 8MB of
shared memory simply can't do that.

And as for the pulsing screen, I think you need to check that your
computer is properly grounded and that you are not experiencing any
voltage fluctuations on the line, because if it's doing that when you're
in the BIOS screen, when Ubuntu isn't running, it's extremely unlikely
that Ubuntu's drivers have anything to do with it.  I think this is a
hardware issue.
