I have to correct myself. The previously mentioned approach disactivates the features entirely (also LAPTOP_MODE start|stop is not called). I changed it to skip just the HDPARM calls.
But this cannot have been the source of my issue, because I saw, that the file power.sh is nearly identical in Feisty and Hardy, so the root cause of the new behavior is somewhere else!
