I can confirm same problem. Tested on four systems using Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit 2.6.24-21-rt / 2.6.24-21-generic and GPU from Intel, ATI and nVidia. I have also tried to force OpenGL using environment variables in the /usr/bin/soffice-start script with no luck.
