I have this bug too. Up-to-date intrepid, xserver-xorg-core version is 2:1.4.99.906-2ubuntu2, 32 bit machine.
I'm using vlock on text console to lock my machine (since gnome screensaver does not work [since hardy]: usually the password check dialog just hangs after entering my password without any response, it can't unlock, but it's another bug). After using my password and witch back to X (ALT-F7) random part of my password is inserted into some application, which is quite serious issue, especially when pidgin sent my whole password to a friend ...
