Hint: until an updated kernel is out, a good workaround seems to be to add noreplace-paravirt to kernel command line. This is noted in the LKML thread (http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/8/22/213). The normal 2.6.27 Intrepid kernel boots up fine in VB with that option, and I didn't notice any drawbacks yet.
