apparently the name changed from "mode" to "mode_option" in uvesafb (modinfo uvesafb) "modprobe mode_option=1440x900 mtrr=3 scroll=ywrap" works, but the short form of "video=vesafb:1440x900,mtrr:3,ywrap" on the kernel line is not working (gives the complaint about unknown mode parameter.)
