Hello:

I can say for certain that as of 7.10, the bug still applied.  I
vaguely remember trying this with 8.04 and the same issue occurring,
but it's been a long time.  Eventually, I just I threw Gentoo on the
box and that fixed the problem.

Note that the issue wasn't just limited to a single computer; I did
try this on many different computers, each with identical results.

If I can find a box with 8.04 on there, I'll try it and let you know.
