I installed Intrepid alpha 4 on the system described in my previous post. A blank CD was recognized and the icon appeared on the Desktop. I used Synaptic to install the 2.26.27-2-generic kernel and rebooted; a blank CD was recognized and the icon appeared. Results so far: It won't work in Hardy and it won't break in Intrepid. Any suggestions?
